Poppy Walshaw (Violoncello)
Poppy Walshaw was a Continuo Scholar at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where she studied with Alison McGillivray and Louise Hopkins. She read Music and Natural Sciences at Cambridge University and then studied with Alexander Baillie at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen, gaining her postgraduate diploma with the highest possible mark.
Poppy recently performed as a soloist with La Serenissima at the Spitalfields, Canterbury and Beverley festivals; this was recorded live for broadcast on BBC Radio 3’s Early Music Show. She has toured and recorded with the Gabrieli Consort and Players, and was the cello coach for their education project with Chetham's School of Music. She has also worked with the Early Opera Company (recently recording Semele), St James’ Baroque, and is a member of Al Ayre Español. She performed with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment under Rattle, Mackerras and Brüggen during and subsequent to her time as an OAE/Jerwood Experience participant, and was principal of the Orchestra Giovanile dell'Academia Montis Regalis.
2007 CD Arias by J.S. Bach and G.F. Handel for counter and orchestra together with rediscovered concertos and doubleconcertos for flute, oboe and violin by Quantz, Fasch, Telemann. Soloists: Maarten Engeltjes counter, Hajo Wienroth traversflute, Mark Baigent oboe and Simon Standage violin.
