Rosa Cañellas

Rosa Cañellas comes from Palma de Mallorca. She completed her diploma studies in cello with Prof. Richter and A. Hülshoff at the Folkwang University of the Arts, followed by a master’s degree in baroque cello with Prof. M. Möllenbeck. A further master’s degree in viola da gamba followed at the University of Music and Dance Cologne with Prof. Zipperling.

An extensive concert career has taken her — as a member of the Camerata Deià, Camerata Adriática, the baroque ensemble Terpsícore and the tango ensemble La Cuarentena — to stages across Germany and her native Spain and well beyond, among others to Austria, the Netherlands and Italy: “Amadeo Festival” (Aachen), “Kammermusikfest Hopfgarten” (Austria), “Festival Internacional de música de Deià”, “Conciertos de Verano del Palau March”, “250 Aniversario del nacimiento de Mozart en el Palau de la Música de Valencia” (Spain), “Festival de Música de Cámara del Adriático” in Bonefro, the “Per un amico” chamber music festival in Cortenova – Lago di Como, and the “Festival de Cámara Monteroni d’Arbia” in Siena (Italy)…

She performs on the baroque cello and the viola da gamba with numerous early-music ensembles such as Le Parlement de Musique, the European Baroque Orchestra Le Chardon, Barockorchester Münster, Bergisches Barockorchester, Les Elizées (gamba duo) and Lord Grey’s Delight (gamba consort)…

As a member of the baroque orchestra L’Arte del Mondo she has taken part in festivals all over the world: “Savannah Music Festival” (Georgia, USA), Teatro Colón “Conciertos extraordinarios Temporada 2011”, Buenos Aires (Argentina), National Peking Opera Company (China)… and has worked with soloists such as Viktoria Mullova, Daniel Müller-Schott, Xavier de Maistre, Daniel Hope and Edita Gruberová. She has also contributed to several CD productions with the orchestra.

She teaches at the Meerbusch municipal music school and is a tutor at Festival Retour.

Together with the Trio Tríptic she received two notable awards for her chamber-music work: the “Premi Ciutat de Manresa” and the “Concurs de música de cambra Montserrat Alavedra”.

With the ensemble Festina Lente she was awarded 2nd prize at the “12th Biagio Marini Competition” in the summer of 2011.
